Albert 2 for 16 to start the season. So do you hope he goes 0 for next 20 and will consider retirement? Do you want him to get hits when he is playing even if it takes AB away from Walsh. In the long run which will benefit Angels the most?

Quit with this. He isn't retiring until the season is over.

I also disagree with the idea that it "benefits the Angels most" for him to just retire. He has value in the club-house and is very respected by his teammates.

That said, his playing time should be very limited. Walsh is the present and future at 1B. I have no problem with Maddon giving Albert the occasional start, but it shouldn't be at the expense of Walsh or Ohtani. Rather, it should be instead of Fowler/Lagares.

Ohtani probably won't start more than 90-100 games at DH. That leaves 60-70 starts at DH. Albert will probably get about half of those--with the rest mixed around the team to provide partial rest days for players like Trout, Rendon, and Upton--and 20-30 starts at 1B. Meaning, I don't think Albert will (or should) start more than 50-60 games this year.

For all the bitching about him getting a start, AP seems to have been super supportive of late while not getting much playing time.  He's always up in the dugout chatting up players and smiling.  For all the diva talk about him in the past, he's been anything but that.  I think AP knows what's up and can read the room well.

sillyness. the angel at bat getting a hit will always benefit the angels. it doesn't matter who it is, there is no long viewpoint above that.

if albert plays and hits, then great, but he doesn't.

I don't think that's accurate.  Ohtani has started almost literally every game at DH so far.  They are letting him start the day before and after his starts.  The only games he isn't starting at DH are the ones in which he pitches, but they even let him hit that game, too.

I think Ohtani will probably start 120-130 games at DH, with just a handful of games off and, of course, no DH when he pitches/bats.

I saw Albert Pujols at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

This actually happened in a Dunn-Edwards, didn't it??

Why are people here still surprised to see Pujols? We are only 9 games in but this is how it's going to be for awhile. Again, 30 million, last year and he's one of the best ever. Maddon will keep going to his veteran and hopefully get it out of his system by the time August comes around.

I'm not surprised he's in lineup just frustrated that he is over Walsh.
