Michael Conforto just stuck his elbow into a would-be strike 3 to take the walk-off HBP..

After seeing the video, it doesn't seem to me that Conforto did this on purpose. The pitch barely grazed him. If he did it on purpose, I give him props by putting his arm in the perfect angle. That said, the umpire apologized and hopefully MLB will fix any future similar situations.

This seems like a perfect example of a game that should be protested and ruled in their favor.  They should play out the rest of the game in the near future with that call being the 2nd out.  Which means it won't.

Yeah I'm looking forward to ManletFred completely botching this one as usual

I umpire High School, I literally had this almost exact play last week, albeit not in a walk-off situation.

I yelled "dead ball, strike 3" and almost a riot broke out. After the game I had to have security escort me to my car. Anytime a player gets hit the easy call is give him the base.

In slow motion during the play I thought "Am I really going to call this?"

Yes, it wasn't fair to the pitcher who made his pitch.

This incident encouraged me that the right call is the right call.

I don’t ever remember Don Baylor leaning into a pitch. He simply stood there and let the ball hit him, then the umpire had to throw the ball out because it was dented.

My best friend growing up was a Baylor fan. His aunt (maybe Mom) dated him briefly, so he sort of "knew" him, and got to go to the clubhouse because of it.

I met him a few years ago. Mentioned the story.

Baylor was COOL A-F. Literally one of the few times in life the myth matched the man. He was one of the nicest guys I ever met. Super down to earth.

And a great team leader who respected the game greatly.

Taken from us too soon

Channeling his inner Dick Dietz circa 1968

Fortunately for Drysdale, Harry Wendlestedt told Dietz to come back to the plate, or else the scoreless innings streak ends at 44+.

The caveat though is how much longer the game would last.

Careful readers and logical thinkers will note that "make everything reviewable" is not the same thing as "give managers unlimited challenges".  I suggested the former, and definitely not the latter.

It should be in the rules that a batter who is hit by a pitch that is in the strike zone is a strike!  Thete is no reason a batters body should be in the strike zone

That literally is already the rule. So the fact that the umpire was in the middle of punching him out makes this decision so ridiculous. The umpire very clearly didn't apply the rule correctly.

Glad it wasn't the Angels at least

Imagine how Jared Goff and Matt Stafford feel.

Stafford gets rescued, and Goff gets stuck with a bad OL.
