ANAHEIM ― For two days at Angel Stadium, Carlos Correa was booed from the moment his name was announced over the public address system. Tuesday afternoon marked the end of the Astros’ season-opening six-game road trip, their first regular-season games with fans in attendance since news of their sign-stealing scandal rocked baseball.

Correa, who starred for the incriminated 2017 Astros club, was booed again when he strode to the plate in the ninth inning to face Angels closer Raisel Iglesias. When he hit a fly ball over the yellow home run stripe in right field, Correa had to know what was coming.

This time, the boos heralded the final dagger in the Angels’ 4-2 loss before an announced crowd of 11,122.

The loss spoiled a fine start by Dylan Bundy and dropped the Angels’ record to 4-2, one game behind the Astros (5-1) one week into the new season.

For Iglesias (1-1), the Angels’ new closer, it was the second home run he’s allowed in four games to begin the season.

“It was the pitch selection as much as anything,” Manager Joe Maddon said. “His stuff is fine. Just got to stay with him, work through it. More than anything I think it’s pitch execution.”

The Angels jumped on veteran right-hander Zack Greinke for two runs in the first inning. Shohei Ohtani hit a ground ball to the right of the pitcher’s mound, which Greinke fielded as it flirted with the foul chalk of the first-base line. Greinke’s throw was wide of first base, and Ohtani was safe.

After Ohtani stole second base, Mike Trout obliterated a slider just above his knees for a home run. The 464-foot blast to left field gave the Angels a quick 2-0 lead.

Bundy promptly gave the lead right back. Kyle Tucker and Aledmys Diaz hit home runs in consecutive at-bats in the second inning, tying the score at 2.

Soon, a pitchers’ duel emerged. The Angels did not put another runner past first base against Greinke, who completed seven innings. The Astros threatened Bundy only once, when an Alex Bregman single and a Yordan Alvarez double put runners on second and third with one out in the sixth inning.

Bundy coaxed an infield fly from Carlos Correa, easily caught for the second out. Tucker watched an 0-and-2 fastball paint the corner for strike three. At 95.1 mph according to Statcast, it was the fastest pitch Bundy has thrown in a game since June 2017.

Aaron Slegers pitched a scoreless seventh inning and Mike Mayers tossed a 1-2-3 eighth.

More to come on this story.
