Holy Shit

Steve Cishek carried an 11.12 ERA through his first seven appearances, though he rebounded to post a 3.14 ERA while punching out 15 across his final 14.1 frames. A major portion of his early struggles can be attributed to a poor fastball, as opposing hitters slugged .789 off the pitch across the entirety of the campaign. That may have inspired Cishek to alter his pitch mix, as he increased his slider usage to a career-high 51.3% while his fastball usage dipped to 47.6% -- nearly 10% below his career average. Also positive was the fact that Cishek's velocity, swinging-strike rate and strikeout percentage were all aligned with his career norms.

Splitter - A+ . only thrown one or two but looks like the same dominant pitch when Betts whiffed.

Curveball - B .  just a get me over pitch although it seems it's the only pitch he feels confident about throwing strikes with at this point. It will be incredibly obvious and exploited if he keeps throwing it at the beginning of at bats though in future starts.

Slider - D .  just terrible. can't throw it for a strike and it hasn't gotten any swings and misses. CT3 also crushed a hanger for a HR.

Fastball - F . command is so bad...when it's in the zone it's gonna go a long way. he's obviously scared to throw it.

You should have seen how bad his command was in 2018 spring training. We all know what happened next.

Yeah, too much is put into ST stats but we’ve seen more injured and mediocre Ohtani than 2018 Ohtani. Hopefully he figures it out but my confidence in him isn’t there yet.
