I think mainly playing the outfield and closing is less stressful than starting and DHing 3-4 times a week. Ohtani will be a free agent after the 2023 season. Need to keep him happy but so far we have only had half of a season of him as a pitcher.

If he was converted to doing just one of hitting or pitching would that sway you? Personally I'd like to see his bat in the line-up everyday and his athleticism and 100mph arm in the outfield taking runners down. Do love a good cannon arm in the outfield.

First, welcome.

Second, pretty sure the door was already closed on him as a reliever. It isn't really easier on the arm, contrary to popular opinion (which is why this suggestion keeps coming up), and logistically it's a lot more challenging than starting once each time through the rotation.

I would probably be open to a long term contract for him if he was a first basemen, or potentially an OF. We have a ton of OF depth though so that's also probably not a good use of funds.
