today, we did indeed talk about eli whitney, but it was about how he (a teacher) invented generic parts for a rifle, so that it could fit into any rifle he made (we'll talk more about him in two chapters with development of the cotton gin, but not yet). we'll start off tomorrow talking about robert fulton and the steamboat.
