I had literally never heard of this guy until this tweet.  Rockies controlled him for 2 more years through arbitration.  Odd.

Genuinely perplexed by this extension.  If this is really where the market for pitchers is going to be this off-season, the Angels are probably in big trouble.

That one is kind of a unique circumstance, though.  Wainwright is beloved by Cardinals fans and he's still pitching well even though he just turned 40.  Next year will probably be his last season, so I kind of get it.  I personally don't think other pitchers will be able to use his deal as a very strong comp.

I don't think you can compare what the Rockies do with pitchers to other teams. They have a homegrown guy who's a known commodity in Coors Field. To them it's worth it

That's fine, but it still seems entirely unjustified to give him that much money, given his performance and how much control they already had on him.  Hey, it's their money, so go for it, I guess--but just seems really silly.
