Funny story.

As a kid I was a Dodger fan with Fernando as my favorite player.

The off-season Dodgers let him go to, the media narrative was Lasorda burned his arm out and threw him out. I became so mad at the Dodgers. Then the Angels signed him. His first start in Anaheim I attended and he even signed my baseball. He got rocked  and only pitched another game before getting released but I became an Angel fan because they gave him a shot. 

(Fernando actually pitched in Mexico and returned to the MLB as a decent starter and then reliever)

Paul Byrd was great with fans.  His warm up song was "Shine" by the Newsboys.  He signed their CD for me. When I asked him to sign it... he was a little surprised that anyone knew the song and the band.  He was really cool about the whole thing.
