OC Register: Angels to allow 25 percent capacity for spring training games

Recommended Posts

The Angels announced on Monday they will sell tickets for spring training games at Tempe Diablo Stadium, allowing up to 25 percent of the ballpark to be filled.

About 1,800 to 2,000 seats will be sold for each of the games, with tickets sold in “pods” of two, four or six. Sections will be marked so groups can remain socially distanced.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday at 9 a.m. PT for registered users of the Angels’ official website, and Feb. 23 at 9 a.m. for the general public.

The Angels have 13 home games scheduled for Tempe Diablo Stadium, starting March 1 with a game against the Chicago White Sox.

The spring ticket policy represents the first fans allowed to attend Angels games since the pandemic cut last spring’s schedule short in mid-March.

The Angels’ policies are in line with those being announced by the Dodgers and other teams throughout the Cactus League.

This year’s Cactus League schedule has been streamlined with no split-squad games and the Angels playing just 26 games in Arizona before returning to Southern California for the three-game Freeway Series (March 28-30) against the Dodgers. No ticket policy has been announced for the Freeway Series.

In the agreement between MLB and the players’ union covering health and safety protocols for the 2021 season, teams were given latitude to shorten spring exhibition games. Games through March 13 can be shortened to five innings if both sides agree. After that, managers can agree to shorten games to seven innings. Managers can also agree to “roll over” innings after 20 pitches or more in games through March 13 – end them with fewer than three outs to protect pitchers from being overextended. Pitchers will also be allowed to re-enter games.
