Alex Cobb PITCHED very well last night.

He sure did.  In the end, I am hopeful that Minasian is pretty good at finding value and helping players perform better than they previously did.  The great FOs of baseball are rather good at finding players who have talent but haven't been "optimized," so to speak, and help them improve upon their performances.

Minasian and Tamin both have strong connections to Friedman, who is widely considered the best executive in baseball, and likely has strong systems in place for player development/optimization, "game planning," etc.  Bundy specifically referenced that he felt we had a really solid plan in place in terms of how to attack certain White Sox hitters.

I'm cautiously optimistic we'll see that "game planning" permeate to all aspects of our team.  Talent wins in the end, but if you have a smartly run team, you can get advantages in areas like this.  It's possible that quite a few players will see significant bumps in their performances as a result.  We'll see how it pans out.

Not a bad debut!  Look at all those swings and misses generated:

I listened to the first 3 innings, and in those innings he had 3 ground ball outs  in addition to the K's. Good sign. He did exactly what  i hoped he would do. Get thru 5-6 innings and keep the game close.

Cobb got 18 outs. From the game summary: 7 of those were K's. 8 were groundouts (1 was a GIDP, so technically 9 outs, but 8 ground balls generated). 1 line out to 2B, and 1 infield pop up.

Additionally, of the eight hits he gave up, four were ground balls, one was a fly ball (home run), and the other three were line drives.

The K and whiff rate were solid (only one BB, which is also excellent - 8/1 k/bb ratio), but dude keeps the ball on the ground impressively well.

Notably too, in his last inning of work, there were runners on 2nd and 3rd, no one out, and he worked his way out of it without surrendering another run.

Very solid work.  Could be our second SP “find” from Baltimore in as many seasons.

trade him?  he's an outfielder who got converted to the infield but still plays the outfield.  And he can't hit!  Maddon just found a bag of weed in his sock drawer.

You don’t talk like any doctor I know.
