This doesn't take us out of the Contreras sweepstakes, as Cubs need a Catcher and may want Stassi back in any Contreras deal. Something like Contreras (28.3 BTV) and Davies (0.5 BTV) for Stassi (2.4), Adams (15.9), Suarez (5.6), Thaiss (3.3) and Barretto (0.9). 28.8 to 28.1 so close value.

But I'm happy with Stassi/ Suzuki for 2021.

Seriously though, seems like a smart arrangement. If Stassi's breakout is real, no one will have any problem relegating Suzuki to back up duty. And if Stassi's breakout is a flash in the pan, then Suzuki keeps things steady. Also, he's the offensive counterpart to a strong defensive Stassi, and Suzuki is a veteran and can probably have a positive impact on the pitching staff.

Not what i wanted, not even close, but it is a good signing especially at that price assuming the money is being spent elsewhere.
It amounts to a temporary stop gap, so we still have a long term need with next years crop not being significantly interesting.

Now go get a Pederson/Puig to finish the lineup and make the splash on pitching.

Combined with Stassi and if they’re born healthy and you’ve got Bemboon (who might actually be better than either) in reserve and Kruger down there that needs a couple year now is not the time to make him come up, it looks ok

Do you guys think this attracts the likes of Bauer and other FA pitchers more now that we have a veteran catcher who has worked with some of the best over the years and is known for his pitch framing and overall defense?
