Angels acquisition that you were 'meh' on that turned out pretty good?

Simba -- that was a real steal for us -- really don't like seeing him leaving us. Some team will pick him up for 2021 and be a better team.

One of the best deals the Halos have made in terms of unequal trade value was the trade in 2012 with the San Diego Padres for Ernesto Frieri . We gave up Alex Armarista, a MIF, who never lived up to his potential with us or with San Diego after the deal and Donn Roach a mediocre RHP who never really made it into the Show.

Megan uanwhile , Frieri - who was just blasted and hit hard his last month with the Padres to the point he couldn't get anyone out -- came over to the Halos and quickly become the Halos closer for the rest of 2012 - he had 23 saves for the portion of the 2012 season he was with the Halos with a 2.32 ERA -- the next season (2013) he saved 37 games for the Halos with a 3.80 ERA-- he started walking the tight rope as a closer in 2014 -- had 11 saves before he returned to being completely ineffective just as he was with San Diego just prior to the 2012 trade to the Halos.  The Angels traded him to Pittsburgh and Frieri never regained his closer form and was out of baseball/ MLB within three years.

But we gave up nothing and got a closer who was fairly effective 23 and 37 save seasons over two years and then - just as importantly - we didn't hold onto the guy when his arm went south -- dumped him quick.  It may have been a fluke but that trade worked for us. Low to NO risk, very high reward.

Ill add ohtani here. (Injuries aside)

When we signed him, I remember everyone being pretty excited... i couldnt care less. Wasnt familiar with him at all. Thought he was more of a gimmick than anything. And was let down that we didnt get someone id heard of.

That rookie year of his was fun as hell. I remember at one point, maybe mud april, i was razzing the dodger fans at work, about how one of our pitchers had more HRs than the dodgers team as a whole.

A lot of you guys are not answering the question of this thread: guys that you were "meh" on that turned out pretty good.

Mike Trout?  Torii Hunter?  GTFO.

The correct answer is: Shigetoshi Hasegawa.  Acquired from Japan.  Inspired a lot of "meh".

Pretty good set up man.  Prettay, prettay, prettay good.

To be fair, I think everyone we acquired back then was meh. Mostly because we never got anybody good.

But good pull, shiggy was cool as hell.

Appier and sele work here. They, for me, were a let down when signed. They werent randy johnson, clemens, etc. But the 02 staff was really solid.

Orlando Cabrera.

Replacing a sacred cow like Eckstein was gonna be tough for anyone. OCab was fun as hell though.

that's a good one.  I remember being bummed that he was the Angels consolation prize to Matt 'on the 5' Clement.

dude was such a good defender.  Kind of a poor man's simmons.  Maybe I need to rethink my initial reaction to us getting a really good defensive SS.

Wait! You thought Vlad was meh?  I remember having a perpetual smile on my face when they signed him.

You know who Stoneman was calling about right? Mr Viagra, Ralphie Palmiero.

It was TrollGlaus. I think he came from the ESPN board with us.

Might be time to start a “Where are they now” thread.  It has been a minute since we have done one.  It is really weird that we have people that are daily fixtures on here that just disappear.  Hell we had a guy on here fake die.
