35 strikeouts in the game.  It's early?

66ers pitchers did great,  but the Quakes pitchers look better. Especially Gavin Stone... fifth rounder in 2020. Hit 98

98 according to the stadium board. I'm seeing people say 94-96

Brendon Davis went 4-5 in his debut after being a minor league phase rule 5 guy from the Rangers (who got him from the dogs in the Darvish trade).  2 doubles and a hr.

He was in AA a couple of years ago for the Rangers and had a terrible season.  Now in A+ for the Halos.  He turns 24 in late july.  At one point he was considered a projectable infielder but has had trouble making contact.  His BB rates have been good though and he's got some power.  Apparently a decent defender or could be.  He's 6'5" and supposedly back in 2018 and before his size has made him awkward and unbalanced as he'd yet to grow into his frame.  He could run a bit before but if he fills out, that will likely go away some.

My guess is that since the Angels started him down a level from where he was 2 years ago that they've adjusted his swing in hopes of him making more contact and hopefully this good start is a sign of things to come.

Also keep in mind a few things to start the season.

These guys are gonna have some rust.

Second, due to the consolidated minor leagues, there's gonna be a lot of commingling of guys who were at that level two years ago plus others who's only experience is some level of rookie ball with limited at bats.

Paris, for instance, is 20 years old and won't be 21 till Nov.  He has 14 professional at bats in his career.  Stone, who was the opposing pitcher is 22 and pitched in college.

Jose Bonilla is 19 and was in the DSL in 2019.

So there are going to be some pretty large age ranges for these guys at any one of the four levels to start until the upper levels start to weed out various roster spots.

Pretty much going to ignore a lot of the numbers for a good two months.

Nobody was killed though.  Gotta take the W's where you can find them.

lol i guess so -- just a flesh wound.

Seriously though, the last 10 years of Angels BB has turned me into such a cynical, negative fan.  I used to be annoyingly positive.  Every prospect could potentially be great and the next Frank Tanana, Wally Joyner, Finley, Salmon, etc.  Horrible season -- doesn't matter because the next season we start in 1st place and it'll be our year.  Maybe we had too much success during the 2002-2009 period and it's ruined things lol.

Andrew Blake, 21st rounder from 2019 went 5 innings giving up 4 hits, 1 unearned run and 8 k's.

Big RHer from NC state.  Not really on anyone's radar to this point and not sure of his stuff/profile.  Only threw 20 innings in college and not till the year he was drafted.

Walked 18 guys for Orem in 2019 yet didn't walk a guy last night.  Misses bats apparently.

But a nice debut for 2021

Seem like one of those Fringe 4/5 or  long relievers type of guy.
