I won’t jump to any conclusions, but at some point there aren’t going to be a lot of good options left. If Sugano goes to Padres or stays in Japan, and Bauer signs elsewhere, where does that leave the Angels?

Trading for Gray, Castillo, Marquez, someone the Mets are looking to unload after acquiring Carrasco.

But seriously:

A Gray or Musgrove trade, or maybe Wheeler.

Tanaka, Odorizzi, Walker, Porcello, Richards, Wainwright, Happ, Anderson, etc.

Getting a starter depth pitcher or two, and signing a couple elite relievers.

Seriously, if we traded for Gray and then spent the rest of the budget on the pen, it really would be a good off-season.

Yesterday it was the Jay and today its the Padres.

In that scenario I’d really like to add someone more like Paxton or oddirizi and push current starters to the pen.

Gray + Castellanos may still get paid less than Bauer by himself.

Move Walsh to RF and put Castellanos at 1B/DH.  Dude still mashes.
