Interesting read from Joel Sherman on why Tampa trades away their good pitchers.

Gray and taking on Moose or Castellanos is probably doable, from a prospect standpoint.....just not sure how much room you’d have to get another pitcher. It would almost certainly rule out Bauer.....Castillo probably isn’t happening, even if you took on Moose and Castellanos, unless you back up the truck and let them pick any 5 of your prospects.....

Arte needs to pass the threshold this time.  Instead of trading prospects or signing Bauer, sign both Odorizzi and Tanaka?   Would they account for no more than $25-30 million between them?

Bundy, Odorizzi, Tanaka, Heaney, and Canning sounds good to me.  Barria and Ohtani start off 2021 as depth then.

Then sign Pillar, Bradley, and Suzuki.

That’s probably no more than $40-45 million added, just $5-10 million over the threshold?   Of which Arte gets back $24 million AAV in a year anyway, net of about $15-20 million under threshold, enough money to re-sign Bundy with something left over.

The farm needs to be improved further, before making trades using it.  And start drafting a catcher or two, so there’s no more musical chairs there ultimately.

I agree.
