He said he wanted to play with Mike Trout. Tried to recruit Trout. So if the Angels made a call that no trade clause is only as strong as his conviction to stay in Philly.

Pretty sure Wheeler was talking about playing 18 holes at Merion Golf Club in the off-season.

Middleton rather firmly reiterated his unwillingness to trade Wheeler. “If they offered me Babe Ruth, I wouldn’t trade him,” the managing general partner told Olney. “I have authorized no one to have a conversation about trading him.”

Considering Babe Ruth is dead, this is not surprising.

If I was Arte I’d do like the Dodgers and say give us Harper and Wheeler for free and throw in 25% of what they’re still owed and thanks bye.

Trout would have been a free agent this year.  This is one hindsight where he avoided a tommy gun full of bullets.
