Yup. Nothing really different between Garrett Stallings or Zach Lee or Nick Tropeano or Deck McGuire. It's just a name we're more attached too because we drafted him.

I think it's a good deal simply because it fills a need - infielder help - at a very affordable rate with $3.5m. Much most cost-efficient than the $6-$12m+ being kicked around for Wong, Hernandez, etc.

At the same time, also a little worrisome that Perry could be on a tight budget.

Wouldn't acquiring Wong or Hernandez likely move Fletcher to shortstop as well? Maybe Minasian values our infield defense a lot more with Fletcher at 2nd and Iglesias at short. I also believe that Fletcher's glove is considerably better at 2nd while pairing him with Iglesias gives us one of the best defensive  MIF's in baseball.

I don't think so.  Arte already said the budget will go up.

I think we are just seeing a new GM remake the team in his image.

A key thing is that acquiring Iglesis at 3.5mil effectively upgrades us defensively at two positions - SS, because Iglesias will play that over Fletcher, and 2B, because Fletcher gets to stay there.

If we signed Wong, while he's great at 2B, Fletcher would have moved to SS, which would have been a downgrade.  And it would have cost us more than acquiring Iglesias did.

my first thought upon hearing of this trade.

we've already seen a couple of move in letting Andriese go and now Iglesias where  a couple mil here and there is being closely considered.

which I'm fine with if it means that extra 4 mil he's already saved means getting better players elsewhere.

Minasian emphasized "run prevention" at his press conference many, many times.

Having Fletcher remain at 2B, where he's fairly elite defensively, and having a very solid defensive SS come over is a great move.  We have a great infield defense now, and I expect that he will acquire a strong defensive catcher, too.

we might have one of the best IF defenses in baseball.  Walsh is a very underrated first basemen defensively.  Excellent hands.  Good arm.  Not super rangy but very good on pop flies behind him and really good at digging out short hops.

Here's the thing, i'm 50/50 on this trade. I don't mind having iglesias, but i don't think his bat will there. He doesn't strike out alot, but he also doesn't walk alot. I just don't like the price.

Plus, i'm actually a bit higher on Stallings than most here. I think he's more than just a spot starter. From the finsih things i've seen, some are saying that Stallings might be the best piece the o's go back from us including the Bundy trade.
