Sean Newcomb

I’m just wondering if given that our new GM came from the Atlanta system and that Sean Newcomb is in the Braves doghouse, whether it might be worthwhile seeing what it take to get him back?  He’s young and has ace stuff.  His issue has been control.  If he can learn to throw strikes more frequently he might be a top of the rotation piece.  In general, I prefer to move players after a good year and pick up players after a down year.  What do my fellow angels think?

His control has improved some each season, down to 3.8 BBs/9 innings in 2019, his first bullpen season.

His 2019 stats weren’t too bad, 3.12 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 65/29 Ks/BBs.  Generally keeps the ball in the park (40 HRs in about 350 innings).

Could be a decent lefty in the pen.

Was Newcomb supposed to be a spot starter in 2020? 13 IP and 17 ER in 4 games?

Why do we need to scour someone else's potential middle innings scrap heap?

he's pre-arb and still has an option.  coupled with his poor performance they can either stash him in the minors or out of the bottom of the pen.  He could be a guy that gets DFA'd to make room on the 40 but I doubt that happens.  Don't see Atlanta selling low on him.
