Angels request permission to speak to Cubs VP of scouting Dan Kantrovitz for their GM opening

I really would love to hear the Angels hiring for a president of baseball operations positions then a vp of same position then hiring of a gm. I mean then I’d feel better about the Angels going forward. If they’re just looking for a GM I’m not going to be super optimistic.

When you say Arte can’t judge talent are you talking about Kantrovitz?  Sounds like he has a decent resume for some pretty decent front offices.   He’s worked for St. Louis, Oakland and the Cubs.  That would be the tier right below the Dodgers and Tampa, right?

Definitely wasn’t referring to Kantrovitz.  

It was more a partial dig at Arte’ judging player talent, per Carpino having said that he likes to be involved in the process (beyond signing the checks).

Dan Kantrovitz only works for the Angels if they hire a president of baseball ops. Period. 

Kantrovtiz was a wizard with draft and he's even said that drafting and scouting is his passion. 
With the Cardinals he helped draft players like Michael Wacha, Marco Gonzales, Luke Weaver and Jack Flaherty. 

I would love to have someone like him lead scouting OR play as GM if we hire a president of baseball ops guy. 

If not then count me out.

That and come to terms with the concept of building with a long-term vision. Meaning splashy short term moves to make them a contender might not be on the table.
