Nope, he will follow his mentor and throw a bitch fit and quit

you know that's not how it happened.

he said 'it's either him or me' and then Arte walked over to Scioscia and put his arm around him.

then Mike looked at all the players watching and said.  'You're safe now.  You're all safe'

then as Dipoto was driven off in a limo, the driver put the center divider down and turned back so Jerry could see that it was Mickey Hatcher.

Pretty damn funny.  I edited it so it’s not as funny but more accurate.

This is similar to the fanporn I wrote about this exact situation.

Although there's....a lot of sodomy involving Dipoto and a silverback gorilla.

Dipoto's assistant quit on him.

I guess grasshopper finally snatched the pebble out of Dipoto's hand.

Jerry and the Mariners must be proud.....looking forward to the new banner being unveiled.

He would be the true prize to get, but I don't think we have enough trade capital to get him.  We'd have to probably include Adell, Marsh, and Detmers.

I’d have no objection to including Adell and Detmers. I have to think you’d be able to hold into Marsh if you part with those two. As good as Castillo is, he has only three more years of club control. And Adell/Detmers is a lot to give up for any player.

Honestly anything is possible with how Minasian and company view the farm system. He won't see it the same way Eppler did. Eppler got a TON of high-risk high-reward type guys.

The new front office might not see them with as high a ceiling and would have no problem trading them. Of course, other organizations might feel the same way. But if it's true the Reds are is sell now/ rebuild mode, then any top guy we give would look good.

I don't think we match with them. Of course, we don't know what they want specifically so they could be really high on Vera and Adams or something.

But my guess is they'd want a top 20 guy for Castillo just because. And they'd be right to get it.

They may like Adell. And by all accounts, Detmers is a safe prospect. And who know, maybe no other clubs would part with that kind of talent (then again, I can see the Padres or White Sox outbidding us for any arm they want).

The nice thing about Castillo is that he would leave plenty of money for other acquisitions. But I guess those other acquisitions would also be made more necessary by losing Adell and Detmers).

I like what @Dochalosaid about this is that we take Castellanos' and a chunk of the contract. Obviously we'd still give up a ton and it would likely leave us with about $15M of space if we took on $10M from Castellanos and Castillo.

It definitely crosses 2 boxes off our list with the outfield and a possible Ace.

Castellanos, i believe has 3 more years on his contract. If you think Adell sucked in rf, you really wont like Castellanos out there. He would be just another DH to add to the roster. With Marsh possibly being ready by midseason, adding Castellanos makes zero sense.

didn't castillo have a great first half of 2019, then crater pretty badly in the second half only for his struggles to continue on into the early parts of 2020? maybe those with the proper tools can double check that statement.

I don't think I'd trade with either Detmers or CRod in pretty much any deal at this point, because we do desperately need good, young cheap pitching to help balance out the team's future needs.

I would happily build a trade around Adell, Jackson, one of Vera/Paris, etc.

That said, given Castillo's projected cost via trade, I think the preferred route would be to aim for Grey, who will cost a lot less.  I think we could ship Adell + Jackson and get Grey + Winker, or something along those lines.

If the Reds are truly considering trading Castillo, I imagine everyone is an option.  Winker has 3 years of control and plays LF/RF.  He has value, but he's the type of player who will quickly lose value the more they hold onto him, so it would behoove them to trade him sooner than later.

For us, Winker would help solve the corner hitting LH OF issue immediately and help shift Upton into a part-time role once Marsh is ready.

At some point this year, we could see:  2B Fletcher, 1B Walsh, CF Trout, 3B Rendon, RF Marsh, LF Winker/Upton, DH Ohtani, C Stassi, SS Iglesias.
