Also, if the Angels do indeed add another starter, like Odorizzi, then the rotation and whatever subsequent trade they make suddenly becomes very interesting.

But again, someone like Yamaguchi could be had for cheap and stashed in the pen until needed in a starters role.

Like a better version of Pena or Barria.

Pirates signed OF Brian Goodwin to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

It's a little surprising that Goodwin had to settle for a non-guaranteed minor league deal, but at least he landed in a spot where he should be able to find something close to regular playing time. The 30-year-old put up a .775 OPS with 23 home runs and 12 stolen bases in 186 games for the Angels and Reds between 2019-2020.

well that’s sad...could have resigned him instead of trading for Fowler

I'm thinking this has to happen. Even if Odorizzi or Walker are mid-rotation guys, a multi year deal would help so much for next year.

Most of Fowler's value to the team comes in the fact that he's a clubhouse leader, and has strong platoon splits, which makes him ideal for a time share. He's a better fit for the team than Goodwin was.

Good. I'll be in Florida quite a bit this year. This is a little better for Angels fans in CT and ET.

If like to see the Angels swing a trade for Shun Yamaguchi. Great numbers in Japan, has the stuff for a bullpen role but ability to go multiple innings.

Blue Jays just put him on waivers.

the Jays better be picking up all his salary in that scenario. He's owed $3.175 million in 2021. He was awful last year and also had awful peripherals and stuff.

His stuff should play up as long as he locates. But yes, you're right in that the Blue Jays would need to eat probably 2 million of what he's owed and still only expect a marginal prospect in return. But Yamaguchi could definitely help someone's pitching staff. He was very effective in Japan, and outside of Kikuchi, most Japanese pitchers come across the pond and experience measured success in MLB.

And it's really a case by case scenario. Kikuchi hasn't been successful because the quality of his pitches allowed him to not be punished for mistakes in Japan. But in the US, the strike zone is smaller, so no one is chasing, and hitters at this level aren't going to overwhelmed by an 95 mph heater at the letters.

Yamaguchi is crafty, his ball dances. Playing in the AL East though, routine popups can always leave the yard, even if it isn't firm contact. Coming to Anaheim, and with a deadened ball, he might line up will for more success.

It seems like they could just as easily sign a better free agent arm for a similar price to Yamaguchi
