lol man this fan base.

I said their quick turn around/rebuild has been impressive. They have a solid farm system (better than the Angels) and Nate Pearson has all the stuff to be a future ace.

They went to the ALCS in back to back years. Tore it all down, rebuilt it and were in the playoffs last year and are trending upwards.

What they’ve done has been impressive, to say otherwise would be stupid.

Here comes LoserLou to chime in and add nothing about baseball as usual.

I legit just feel bad for you at this point. Find a hobby.

Rogers has money. Like Arte, if they wanted to spend they could.

It would’ve looked horrible had they been shutout this offseason after being linked to everyone.

It crazy that the Jays have gone from the ALCS to full rebuild back to flirting with competing again while we’ve been spinning our tires in mud. Quite frustrating

It is remarkable. Their core of Bautista, Encarnacion, Donaldson, etc have been replaced extremely quickly and impressively.

Toronto has a very solid front office. It's been that way for at least a decade now. Biggio, Vlad, Bichette and Gurriel is a core to build around and the team is so cost efficient that they can literally sign Springer, Brantley and Bauer and still maintain a payroll lower than the Angels, at least in 2021.

I'd say the only weakness I see there is a lack of internal pitching depth. Nate Pearson will be an ace for a very long time, but beyond him, there are questions. That's why they needed Ryu and Stripling. Though to be completely fair, the Angels needed Ryu and Stripling, they just weren't willing to pay the necessary price and have suffered the consequences.

I think the Angels have had to overcome more. Dipoto bloating the payroll and destroying the farm set the organization back for nearly half a decade. You look at the roster and you can still see how it affects team building. If it weren't for Eppler, that couldn't crippled the franchise for much longer.

I like the Angels farm though.

There's no way to know whether Fletcher, Adell, Marsh and Adams will be as valuable as Gurriel, Biggio, Bichette and Vlad. They probably won't be, but they'll still be pretty good. The Angels can still boast a very solid group in AAA, and high upside group in rookie ball, and a few pitchers in Rodriguez, Detmers and Kochanowicz that will positively impact the future.

Maybe Simeon Woods or Manoah work out, but they've got just as many if not more questions and less upside than the Angels prospect arms.

From where I'm standing in order to maintain success, Toronto will need to continue to spend money on pitching for at least the next three free agent markets, which is going to bloat their payroll beyond where the Angels are at. They just don't have the arms to sustain a lower payroll.

For the Angels to experience sustained success, they just need to allow Pujols and Upton to conclude their contacts and get off the roster. That, and spend on pitching this year only. That's it.

From there, the farm can take over. You lose Upton and gain Adell, lose Pujols and gain Marsh, lose Heaney and gain Detmers, lose Quintana and gain Rodriguez, and hopefully add Ohtani, Kochanowicz and Adams into the mix for good measure.

IMO You need to be fully committed to whichever direction you want to go in as an organization. The Jays were fully committed to winning when they went to the ALCS back to back years. Then they fully committed to a rebuild.

The Angels continue to be about 80% committed. Almost everyone agreed that this was the year to go for it, given our division and the market. Obviously there’s still time to commit but things aren’t looking that way right now.

100% spot on.

This is the year to "go for it". AL West is up for grabs, news CBA coming which might change CB Tax limits and most importantly, Pujols is off the payroll in 2022.
Even spending big in 2021 will help reset the payroll in 2022 by roughly $45M+

GO GET BAUER ANGELS GOOD GOD.....

It seems like we've been consistently one of the best teams to not make the playoffs.......a terrible place to be

With the Astros losing two significant players, and with Verlander out for the year, the AL West does seem to be "up for grabs."  The A's will be good, but they are losing Semien and Hendriks.

If we do add a top-of-the-rotation SP like Gray, and perhaps a corner OF LHH or another reliever, I'd like to think we can win the West this year.

This is the dumbest off-season ever. Agents and team officials leak it and then rescind it just to keep them and their client in the news with a will they won't they storyline.

Stupid premadonnas. Bauer included.

Prima donna.  Unless you're talking about a time period before there were multiple Madonnas...

This is an excellent point.

With all of Minasian's moves so far, we have basically signed/acquired a bunch of guys who will be free agents after the upcoming season, along with Bundy and Heaney.

The amount of long-term commitments we have is low.  If Arte is willing to go over the luxury tax for one year to get someone like Bauer, then he can easily do it and go back below the luxury tax next year without much issue.

The penalty, as outlined above, is rather small.

Hopefully, our farm system continues to grow, and we can start to fill some of the upcoming free agency departures internally (Adell, Marsh, Detmers, CRod, etc).  But for now, it would seem going over for one year, while securing a top-of-the-rotation arm, would work out fine in terms of long-term implications.

So, in that regard - sure, sign Bauer, find a LHH OF on a one year deal, and add another reliever to a one year commitment, too.
