 I have seen 13 year olds that can track fly balls and take better routes than he does.  You have to hit really really good if you are going to suck as bad defensively as he does to earn a spot in MLB.   I just wonder how the scouts for the Angels did not see how bad he is defensively.  He probably was or is probably too proud to shag fly balls.  He is way overrated and might just be a bust.

when he's sitting on his couch at night watching netflix and ordering something off amazon is he less free to do that than mike trout?

Being a gym rat does not make one a mlb player. If he cant read and track a fly ball at age 21, dont know if he ever will.

For comparison, Aaron Judge’s first taste of MLB pitching in 84 ABs: 

(AGE-24) .179avg, 4HR,  10RBIs, 42Ks, .608 OPS 

 

Adell with 117 ABs:

(AGE-21) .154avg, 3HR, 7RBIs, 52Ks, .464 OPS

Adell definitely with poorer numbers but it’s still just a taste and he’s 3 years younger during his first taste than Judge.  Judge went on to hit 52 HRs the following season (2017).

45 games and 383 innings over two seasons isn't much.   Less than half as much as he's played CF... where he's looked far more comfortable in just two games there this year.
