Adell and what will he become of this start

Recommended Posts

So far Adell has looked like one of the most inexperienced top MLB prospects to ever come up since B Wood for the Angels, why do our top prospects almost never pan out?  Does the entire league conspire that we have higher consensus prospects than actually exist, just to keep us quiet?  Something isn't adding up and it's looking like it's not just the lack of pitching we have to worry about.

Adell has looks like one of the most inexperienced top MLB prospects to ever come up because he IS one of the most inexperienced top MLB prospects to ever come up.

Tatis apparently had the same experience coming into this season.  I'm going to pretend like I haven't been lied to for over a decade.

So DR players by default are better?  gosh I wish I knew that beforehand

Gosh.  I’d venture to say they play tougher competition from an early age on and could be more prepared.  Or it could be that Tatis is a generational talent and Adell isn’t.

Wonder if having a Dad who played MLB, has managed in DR and minors, and a grandfather who played AAA, then coached and scouted for the Astros possibly helped him further his skills at all.

I do think there are concerns among the Angels scouting and player development teams. As bad as Adell has been, it may be too early to make a final judgment. After all is said and done you could be right or this could be an “I agree” thread that @Lou digs up.

This may be 100% true but Adell is highly rated by every outlet.   He wasn’t given that rating because Eppler said he was good.

Exactly!.

All the people talking him up in those outlets actually saw him play and are aware of what he is and wasn't yet..  The term "raw" was constantly attached to him because because he's so far from being a finished/refined product.  In many cases, the reason for the hype was due to his success despite the holes in his game... success brought on by his over the top athleticism, things that simply can't be taught.

The people panicking right now, never saw him play, never looked at his numbers, they saw a minor league ranking somewhere and decided well he's supposed to be good because number X is supposed to be awesome.

He's doing pretty much what you would expect based on his past performances.  He's always been slow out of the gate then adjusted.  The big difference is he didn't see enough AAA games to make those adjustments there, now he's being forced to make those improvements at the absolute highest level there is.

Baseball is hard.

For chrissakes, Adell will be OK. We need to temper our expectations, that's all. The vast majority of top prospects don't turn into Trouts and Tatises. It may be that Adell will more likely turn into a borderline star ala Upton and Hunter, which is fine. But give him a chance.

Remember the outrage anytime someone comped him to anyone other than Trout or Jesus Christ in the minor league thread?   Lol...

Also the people who did read up about him and are disappointed now, well unless they only read about him here, they read it from publications that all saw what they are seeing now, and still see him as a top 5 or so prospect in the game.  Those are the publications that ranked him high.  So the hype is the hype because of what he can or will be, not what he is right this minute.

Only if Adell becomes another Byron Buxton (career .705 OPS so far), will I then be disappointed.

Buxton looked like he was finally putting it together last year, but has either started slow or taken a step back. Still, his speed and defense are so good that he doesn't have to be a good hitter to be a useful player. It is hard imagining Adell turning into a good defensive player, but he should at least become decent.
