It's interesting to me that people fully acknowledge the importance of a farm system and in particularly how the Angels let theirs fall into total "disrepair", and yet can still underestimate how impactful it's been on the Angels recent history....

Stoneman set this team up for the better part of two decades by restoring the farm system all the way to number 1 by baseball America after being named the worst system in MLB by the same publication...  But he did it during a time when teams could still "draft and follow", could pay 1st round money all the way down to the final pick, had zero limits on their international signings, and the draft went 50 rounds...   It took Stoney 6 drafts despite all those advantages ...

The farm system was undeniably worse when Eppler took over, and it took a year for him to evaluate and make changes to the scouting staff, but the underlying problem has been that there was nothing there...   Even Dipoto inherited three top 100 guys along with Richards, Shoemaker, Trumbo.I

Seriously people seem to get it, and not get it at all.  We are still paying for past sins.

Do you happen to have a list of Dipoto draft picks during his time with the Angels that are now major leaguers?  I can think of Fletcher, Middleton, Newcomb, Ward, Jewel, Walsh, and Benboom.  So Fletcher and Middleton are the only ones worth much of anything.  But Eppler sucks because he hasn’t turned it around in 5 drafts.
