If he is still developing than I don't have a problem.  I just wonder how does he "polishes his game" with intrasquad games.

Instead of facing the Triple A pitchers from the Mariners, A’s, Giants, Padres, etc., he will be facing the Triple A pitchers from the Angels.

I don't understand something.  If the whole league will not be spending much for FAs this offseason due to CV and revenue issue, then where is Simmons getting this money to go elsewhere?  Seems to me the CV issue may make it more likely that Simmons returns since there will be less options (offers/money) now available and returning to his team for the past several years makes the most sense.  Whereas before, we'd maybe need to make a 4-5+ year offer, now you could envision 2-3 years (& less per/year money) since there won't be big money offers coming for much or any FAs this offseason.  If that's the theory for FAs, then returning where he is familiar, has a good relationship, team has a need for next couple years, etc. is more of a possibility now.  But maybe that's an obvious concept...to most.

So that would really be like facing Double A pitching, right?

He was getting over 350 but not now.

well, since he's a free agent next year, they should just bench him and let one of the kids play, especially since no one is going to offer him big money ever again.

I doubt the fear of an inside fastball is taking away from the experience of trying to navigate pitch recognition when it involves a combination of pitch sequences involving major league quality off speed offerings. Most hitters can see an inside fastball and react instinctively. Most hitters can't see the nuances between a hittable slider and one that is going to fall off into the unhittable zone. That is what Adell is getting experience with right now.
