Major fire in the national forest

As if we needed anything else, a wildfire has started in the Mount Charleston area west of the city, origin unknown.

 

My own photo, taken on the way to the grocery store at about 6 PM:

 

 

A photo taken by a coworker who was supposed to camp in the area, but had to evacuate instead. Taken once he got to a safe distance.

Dang.  That's a peak I want to hit too.  It also doesn't help that it's hotter than Bixby Knolls in Vegas right now.

That looks like a big fire. Hope the damage is not too bad.

I haven't heard anything definite, but it seems certain that it is of human origin. There were no storms in the area, and the first smoke was spotted near one of the campsites.

It has burned just under 3,000 acres, and it is about ten percent contained.
