Since the Angels don't have a 2nd rounder, they don't necessarily need to go under-slot like they usually do for their first round, correct?

Well they lose slot money as well for the 2nd round pick.  That being said I have no idea if it makes sense to save money for the 3rd-5th round pick.

My first impression on Detmers was to think back to 1993 when Brian Anderson (another control oriented lefty) was selected #3 overall by the Halos, and went on to a mediocre MLB career.

Then I remembered that Wright State's opponents (Anderson) were nothing like Detmers' were in the ACC, and that picking Anderson was yet another cheap early draft pick likely orchestrated by Jackie Autry just as McKay Christenson at #6 was in 1994.

If Veen falls to 10 will Eppler take him? Everyone I've seen projected him top 5 and possibly higher if he had played this spring. But.. he's a prep outfielder.
