Holy shit. I wasn't expecting these answers.

It's the real life version of Training Day.

The story about the gangbangers in the backyard with no backup is straight out of a movie. Wild shit.

Yeah, I was an idiot. Literally day 1 academy stuff. "Dont EVER go to calls alone, dumbasses"

Took me like one paycheck to figure I already knew everything... lol

Lesson learned.

wow. thanks for the stories TORS. i always find them interesting.

my mom was an ER nurse for 35+ years. said the worst victims were always car/motorcycle crashes. said one dude on a bike came in one time and somehow in teh accident, it had ripped of the skin on the head of his penis. she said that one was tough to fix, but even tougher to see.

she said the worst physical thing was when some guy came in from a car wreck and his bowel had been cut open. she said the sight and th smell were pretty overwhelming.

i remember several times when she got home and there was blood on her white nursing shoes, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. i can't imagine it's easy  to get used to stuff like that.

The ER staff has it worse. They get people coming in from all over the county, not just one city.

This is why so many cops / firefighters date nurses.... we're all weirdos working weirdo hours.

I was going to say I hope you were on call when someone called in my house party and you were the one to break it up, but if you learned your lesson pass it on to the rookie.

I remember as a kid in high school there was a website that was beyond extreme and showed actual pics of deaths or accidents. One I'll never forget some 25 years later is there was this white dude that got in a motorcycle accident and was in a state where they didn't require a helmet. His face was completely split open vertically because his handle bars went straight into his dome. Dude was sitting there with his eyes open as he was alive, but the splitting was so bad his eyes were almost spaced to be on the sides of his head. You can't unsee shit like that.

Same with some kid I know that normally posts dumb high school shit like anime pics or silly memes, but just decided to drop some dude sitting on a couch that kind of revs himself up and puts a shotgun to his head and pulls the trigger. I was floored that he posted it and also that it was just in my feed and autoplayed...it wasn't like I clicked to watch it. After the dude pulls the trigger there is a second or two where you see the body convulse.....I heard this when you kill a snake, like the nerves are still active. Just fucking wild.

When I started pre-med during orientation they take you down to the cadaver room to show you dead bodies, almost like a test to see if you can handle it. I just remember how cold it was in there and you will never forget the smell of embalming fluid and dead bodies.

I get how TORS says it becomes routine. I had this convo with an ex that worked at Orangewood as a therapist and would do the intake for suicidal kids or abused kids. She had some wild stories that are damn near traumatizing, but she got used to it the same way he does. Although, I'll never forget the time she came home and talked about some guy that would put his cigarettes out on his kid. It fucked me up.

But lets get back to TORS dropping stories of rolling up on gangbangers or popping the trunk to see a dead body. This shit is interesting.

Maybe 20 years ago or so, there was a notorious accident out of newport beach. Teenager got high on coke, took daddies sports car out, nailed a freeway pillar at 100 plus.

CHP guys took a pic, sent it to a dispatcher, and it got out to the internet.... if you look you can find it.

So now we're not supposed to take pics, but everyone does... thats why the kobe thing didnt surprise me....and i think its silly that people made a big deal out of it.

When you see these things all the time, you get desensitized. Its not gross... more "holy shit! Look at that!" And you show the guys who werent there, more to tell the story.

I get that people dont want us to do it. And i get the reasoning. But we see it ALL. THE. TIME.

If you take pics and post them or sell them, thats different.

The orangewood story about your ex..... yes. Owood is a f*cked up place.

First molester I ever hooked..... he was making his retarded son watch porn with him... and his son (retarded) was my witness (talk about a tough interview)

This dude was banging his 6 year old daughter, filming it, and selling the videos.

He did more time for the videos than banging his kid.....

This sounds like that scene in season 3 of Southland... great show btw, it's like 90% LOLs and then out of the blue shit gets real.

That show was pretty flawless. Hollywood for sure, but soooo many little details right.

One of my best friends was an advisor. Hes a legend out of LAPD 77th. In a lot of youtube videos. He was the liasson between the show and 2 of the housing projects in Watts. Hes an extra in a lot of scenes.

Ill have to go back and rewatch it.

One of the episodes i remember.... and this was so believable, because these things happen.... they arrest some gangster, and when they get him out of the car, they find a pipe in the backseat. They charge him for it, he says its not his, and they start an IA over the complaint.

Later in the episode, another cop approaches him and is like "hey dude, did you find a pipe in the backseat? I think i forgot it back there when I had the car last".

That stuff happens all the time.... and its not "dirty cop" shit, but "cops are people, people make mistakes" stuff.

Fuck.......

I shouldn't say this but I used to be at Orangewood. I remember when they did the weekly clothing handouts. I ended up with a banana cream colored turtleneck. Only time I've worn one. I also got chicken pox there.

You ever take a rookie on their first day and show them the ropes?

giphy.gif?cid=ecf05e47cb3d2196272c17be29

Im a backup training officer. Its way less exciting.

And even though we all were dumbass new guys once, my god do 90 percent of the academy guys seem like idiots. (Like me on that party call)

One of the hardest parts about training new guys is they dont know anything (duh) except for stereotypes.... that they get from movies.

We dont train near as hard as the old days..... i should make a thread just for those stories... lol.

Had some old school FTOs to train me..... the old generation, mostly ex LA guys that came to OC to relax a bit before they retired.... paintbrush mustache, shaved head types.

Common tactic... get the new guy to relax.... ask him about his girlfriend/dog/sports team, whatever.... then SCREAM what street are you on?!?!?

When he doesnt know (which you dont), slam the breaks, throw all his gear out of the car, make him pick it all up, run with it back to the last intersection, then run back with it.... with bystanders laughing.

Total dick move!........ but the lesson is gold.... because when youre in a pursuit, foot or car, and the backups are asking where you are......

Im by far the most chill "turn the music down" cop ever. And thats the guarantee to get laid move.

That said, im also the most "lose my shit" when the party house tries to blow us off guy.

Respect given and expected in return is my policy.

Yeah, smart people learn pretty quick that if you just act cool and treat the person with some respect things sometimes end well.

My last few traffic stops I was cool, respectful, and honest about what was happening and I got off super light or just warnings.

Going back to what I was saying about pursuits.... this is the best video on youtube to show it.

Few points. The incident isnt super exciting, its a simple pursuit of what turns out to be a robbery suspect. But the unit in the video doesnt make it there, so letdown in terms of the video.

That said, this is a great learning tool.

The dispatcher does an amazing job here. Clear, concise, and doesnt hog the air.

And second, the unit in the pursuit is super calm... until its a foot pursuit.... you see how quickly the adrenaline rush kicks in.

Also of note, is when they broadcast they have plainclothes officers in pursuit with them....because everyones adrenaline is up, and now you add the fact people out of uniform, with guns, will be there... so responding units, heads up on trigger discipline here.....

If youre cool, it allows me to be my lazy self. When people act stupid, suddenly I am a go getter.

And it works the other way, too. If a cop talks down to everyone, people are going to front him back.

Treat people as you want to be treated.

Im also a sucker..... i write maybe one ticket a year (my bosses love me). But even the people I swear are getting one.... as soon as i talk to them, im like "F*CK!...... ok, dont do it again"

I remember some Orange cops breaking up a party back when I was in high school. One officer came in through the side yard and screamed “Everyone be quiet and put your hands in the air!” The music stopped, everyone threw down their drinks and immediately put their hands up.

Cop: Now everybody say “Hey!”

Crowd: “Hey?”

Cop: Now everybody say “Ho!”

Crowd: “Ho!”

Cop: Now get the hell out of here.

Everyone was laughing and shaking the officer’s hand as they left the party. Cool dude.

What’s ironic is the guy who threw the party is now an OC Sheriff and is the contact for the local high school.

Ogrish.com comes to mind.  Someone linked me to it probably almost 20 years ago and I clicked without knowing exactly what it was.  Spent about 3.2 seconds on the site and still have an image burned into my head of two kids who died in a car crash along with the website so I would never make that mistake twice.

I hate gnar stuff, gore, blood and guts type stuff. I have a weak stomach. I remember when Faces of Death was out, maybe early 90's? VHS tapes passed around from my buddies. That was the first time I saw that type of stuff, just crazy stuff. Probably mild compared to other shock websites out there these days, but back then that was sick.
