OC Register: Joe Maddon and wife giving $30,000 grant to WomenShelter of Long Beach

Recommended Posts

Angels manager Joe Maddon and his wife, Jaye, are reaching out to help victims of domestic violence.

The Maddons’ charity, Respect 90 Foundation, is making a $120,000 donation for COVID-19 relief efforts, with a $30,000 grant going to the WomenShelter of Long Beach. WSLB is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to eliminate domestic violence through compassionate intervention, education and personal empowerment.

The grant will be used to support victim services that have become challenging to provide during the coronavirus pandemic.

“WomenShelter of Long Beach is very thankful to have this collaboration with Respect 90 Foundation,” said Mary Ellen Mitchell, the WSLB executive director. “Their contribution will have a direct, positive impact on the many victims of domestic violence and the children we serve.”

In addition, Respect 90 is awarding grants to the Hazleton Integration Project’s Food Distribution Network (in Joe Maddon’s hometown of Hazleton, Pa.) and the Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa, where Maddon managed the Rays from 2006 to 2014.
