This reminds me of the guy that caught Albert’s 600 home run ball and gave it back to him. He said that it wasn’t his ball, it’s Albert’s, and he deserves to have it.

He’s not our HoF’r, he’s the Cardinals and they deserve to have him back to reach those milestones in front of the fans he loves. I think it would be a tribute to Albert, the Cardinals and a show of good will to baseball.

Lmao would you still be saying this if he was having a Bonds-esque end to his career? Would the Cardinals still deserve to have him back then??

Lol if Albert did what Bonds did at age 31. He would’ve never left St Louis.

Money talks. He would have left to whoever payed the most.... don’t really know where you’re getting that impression from.

My point was that if he had performed as well as Bonds at age 31 St Louis would’ve gave him a blank check. The Cardinals knew he was declining.

It’s weird they knew he was declining and yet still offered him 9 years and over $200 million.

They offered him 5 / $126 and purposely didn’t match higher offers. They could’ve paid Albert whatever he wanted but they knew his most productive years were behind him. The 9 years $200M was never going to get a deal done. The Cardinals knew that. His agent did an outstanding job.

Sure. If the Cards knew it wouldn’t get it done then why offer it?

To placate their fans. It was a great offer that they knew very well he would refuse. The Cardinals have made the playoffs five times since Albert left with four division championships. They made the right decision.
