OC Register: Angels’ Brandon Marsh out with elbow injury

Recommended Posts

TEMPE, Ariz. >> Brandon Marsh, the Angels’ No. 2, prospect is going to be out indefinitely with a strained left elbow suffered attempting a diving catch.

Manager Joe Maddon revealed the injury on Tuesday morning, adding that he’s unsure of the degree of the injury to Marsh’s non-throwing elbow.

“We don’t have a finish line yet, but we’re hoping that it’s not too long,” Maddon said. “Theoretically it should not be. But elbow strain, back off him. It’s his non-throwing arm so he’s going to be able to do one-arm kind of drills.”

Although Maddon said he’s unsure of the timetable, he didn’t rule out Marsh having the start of his regular season delayed. Marsh was expected to begin the season at Triple-A.

“It’s definitely going to put an impact on his spring training,” Maddon said. “I don’t have a specific finish line, except that I know that it’s going to prohibit his spring training.”

Marsh dove for a ball in center field on Sunday, the Angels’ first Cactus League game of the spring. He appeared to be hurt, but bounced up quickly and remained in the game. Marsh later underwent an MRI that showed the injury.

Marsh, 22, is the Angels consensus second-best prospect, behind only Jo Adell. He’s also been ranked toward the bottom of the top 50 in several major league prospect lists.

He hit .286 with seven homers and a .774 OPS last season at Class-A and Double-A, although a second-half swing change led to a strong finish. Over his last 32 games, Marsh hit .344 with a .932 OPS. He then went to the Arizona Fall League and hit .328 with a .909 OPS.

Yeah, we could use Pederson in SLC to replace Marsh

Somewhere, somehow why do I think there are Boston front office people thinking "how can we get involved and screw this deal up?"

Minor leaguers trying to get to the big leagues should be diving for balls and playing their hardest in ST.
