Indeed!  Though he didn't play at UCLA or Duke, so he's not allowed in our battle!  🙂  It is unusual how many greats wore that number, though!

Oh man, I missed your Duke vs UCLA battle royale.  I am a fan of both basketball teams, which is allowed because I didn’t go to either school.  Also Laettner was bad ass as was your boy Grant Hill.  I thought for sure Grant Hill was going to be a GREAT NBA player.  I was pretty big into college basketball back then and I would have lost a ton of money on Hill and Penny Hardaway being top 50 all time players.  Damn Grant Hill’s injuries.  He might be the last dude we ever see kill it on mid range jumpers.

Yeah, it's definitely a shame Hill couldn't stay healthy.  He still managed to get into the Hall of Fame, but he's definitely in the "What Might Have Been" category.  I got to see him for 2 years at Duke.  Missed Laettner by 1 year.

Many people don't remember that Magic wore #33 in college.

Yep, I think #33 was already taken on the Lakers.   Greg Kelser (#32 for MSU) was pretty darn good too in college.

Magic vs Bird, both college and pro, those were the days.   It’s ironic that both wore #33 the very first time they faced each other.

What a team in the 1980s: Kareem, Magic, Big Game James, Coop, Rambo, etc.

Lew Alcindor. One of my favorite all time college players.

I used to follow the Bruins back then and kept track off all the players and their stats. UCLA had so many great teams under Wooden.

Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor was his full name

Lew Alcindor changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar the day after the Bucks won the NBA championship in 1971. The Muslim name means "generous servant of the mighty one." When asked about the change he stated that Alcindor was the name of a French planter who brought his family to America as slaves
