Is Joc Peterson better than Brian Goodwin?

The trade is not for him, it is for Stripling.  Pederson is purely in there to keep the Dodgers under the tax.

Yes. He’s easily better. Also, the trade would be worth it because we get 3 years of Stripling, who’s a pretty good starting pitcher. Add the fact that we get another solid prospect in return, I think it’s a really good deal for us if the prospect we send back is not one of our top ones.

Pederson crushes righties and Goodwin is better against lefties. This is a good platoon for RF. Defensively, Pederson is a superior defender.

Pederson is basically Mike Trout-lite when it comes to hitting against right-handed pitchers. He would be a huge addition to the lineup. Basically, another MOTO bat. And since Goodwin hits lefties well, the two would make for a great platoon.

Goodwin hovered around replacement value his first four season, then posted a 2.1 WAR in 2019.    Pederson has nearly averaged that over his six year career.     

So, based on past WAR, Pederson has been the better player....by a lot.
