This deal could’ve been the difference between making the postseason and missing the postseason. All the Angels had to do was give up Rengifo (who is very much redundant).

Hopefully Eppler has something else up his sleeve...

Obviously there is more to it.  There is virtually no chance the Angels backed out of the advertised deal.

Not unreasonable....but what was “more”? Marsh? I get that, screw them...but if it wasn’t a premium prospect and Arte balked out of “principal”, then screw Arte....it wasn’t the Dodgers who scuttled the original deal...it was the Sox....

i guess we’ll find out at some point....

The Angels deal with the Dodgers, as has been noted a 100 times.  Was a separate deal from the Dodgers, Twins, Red Sox deal.  It’s not the Angels problem if the Dodgers deal for Betts fell apart.  If they were dealing with the Angels while  falsely assuming that the Red Sox deal was done then that’s negotiation in bad faith.  Fuck that.

They’re at 221.5 in payroll. They probably asked to include the money going to Minnesota. They’d have been just under again if they made a few moves. Maybe they asked us to take on Joe Kelly or Hernandez or something.

I seriously doubt that Moreno pulled out of the original deal which so clearly was a salary dump for the Dodgers and heavily favored the Angels.

Asking for better prospects or more money. That makes sense cuz they had to give up an additional pair of prospects and $10M and got two guys back.

If, as this article said, it was Rengifo (and let's even add in the two proposed prospects suggested by other baseball beat writers) for Pederson, Stripling, and Pages, that sounds like a big overpay by the Dodgers. As @Stradling and others have talked about the Dodgers probably needed to move money for payroll purposes, thus the overpay.

It is very likely that when they restructured (whether that was intentional by the Red Sox or not) the deals they created the payroll space where they didn't have to give away those players to stay under the CBT threshold by sending Downs in addition to Verdugo and getting the Red Sox to cough up more money. That resulted in our deal falling through as the Dodgers very likely told Moreno and Eppler they were backing out of the original proposed deal.

Bloom is a Rays guy as is Friedman. I don't personally like the smell of this bullshit.

If indeed this deal has fallen apart my guess is this is what happened.

The Dodgers ended up giving up more than they were going to in the original deal, so they asked the Angels to alter the deal, and they refused to give up more.

This is the only thing that makes sense... anything else and we look like a monkey fucking a football.

So like I said, this would be an example of bad faith negotiation.  It’s not the Angels problem that the other deal fell apart.  It’s not the Angels problem that Bloom is an incompetent moron that let Betts get away for what is now clearly way less then he was worth.  The Dodgers first negotiated with players they were not fully prepared to part with during the negotiation, and then tried to change the terms of the agreed upon deal in this scenario.  Fuck them.  The *only* correct thing to do in a situation like this is pull the plug.

No....if it was totally separate, why was it not announced after the original Betts deal fell apart? It was a separate deal but contingent on the Betts deal getting done....when the Betts deal didn’t get done in its original form, then Pederson/Stripling wasn’t automatic...

They didn’t create more space they have less unless they got the Red Sox to pay literally all of  Prices contract this season. (And say $8M in subsequent years). They did do extensions with Chris Taylor and Max Muncy but that’s also increased their AAV payroll. They also won Joc’s arb hearing.

The extra prospects acquired and sent literally have zero effect on the CBT. Only Graterol is on the 40-man, and he makes the league minimum. So zero effect.

More likely, they wanted us to take $13.5 M in salaries, including Peterson and Stripling Instead of the original $10. Someone like Hernandez or Kelly or they wanted Cash. (We could’ve paid the Twins in what would’ve been a 4 way deal).

For those if you who believe Pederson and Stripling are still going to be traded to the Angels, I have news for you... not only are they not coming - your exgirlfriend isn't coming back to you either.
