Kobe Bryant killed in helicopter crash

I would like to find out what caused the crash. Was the helicopter being properly maintained?

Apparently the ceiling and visibility for flying helicopters was pretty bad in LA County and flight control had the pilot take the helicopter through an alternate route to Thousand Oaks, as it was going into the canyon it started ascending and took a 180 degree turn due to poor visibility . This was reported on KNBC 4 by one of their flight experts who traced the flight path and flight control data. I watched the live report of him explaining the data about 20 minutes ago.

The OC Register reports that John Altobelli, OCC baseball coach and one of his children were also onboard the helicopter that crashed.

They shouldn’t have been flying in those conditions. I want to blame the pilot, but that wouldn’t be fair

Yeah, viz is real bad today.

Our airships get grounded pretty often for weather like this, fwiw.

It would be great if in this thread we can simply share our thoughts on Kobe.  We have plenty of time later to place blame or to speculate. I know that it is natural to speculate, but maybe one of the other two threads we have on the subject (hangout forum and basketball forum) can be used for such posts.  This is a really tough day.

The worst part about this is the loss of children. Those kids probably looked up to Kobe so much...Gianna especially, this is a huge loss. I have no doubt in my mind that Gianna would’ve been a great person. Just painful man

Tiger just finished his round at Torrey Pines. He hasn't been informed about Kobe's death. Officials are waiting to talk to him in private.
