I didn’t have him as borderline, but he’s definitely above average and had a great career overall. I just always had him in that tier below HoF level.

One of my favorite players is also probably in this tier in Garrett Anderson......good/great, but not era defining. And GA is definitely better than Abreu. Maybe I’ll call it the Jim Edmonds tier where it’s a good player you want on your team, but at the end of the day isn’t HoF worthy.

But who knows. If Harold Barnes can get in, I don’t even know. I had him in that same tier with guys like Cecil Fielder or Ryan Howard

Is this a joke? Anderson was good, but he was nowhere close to HOF. He had some counting stats and that was it. Edmonds is borderline with Abreu and Andruw Jones. Walker was even better. Kenny Lofton got passed over on the first ballot and he may have been the best of all these outfielders.

Yeah, this is why we don't rely on our perception. The numbers make it clear Anderson wasn't anything more than a good major league player. He was good enough to be an all-star once or twice in his career. Otherwise, he was just a solid player. Nothing more or less.

I think it would be very interesting to see if Walker was a Yankee and Jeter an Expo/Rockie.
I absolutely dont think Jeter should have been unanimous at all.  But, i give him the nod as he was very clutch, something Walker never really got a chance to show.

Jeter got a lot of unique opportunities because of who he played for, but he also came up big in many of those moments on the big stage.

I seem to recall that the Houston Astros contemplated drafting Jeter, but they decided to pass.

The year Walker should have been in the World Series. The most shameful in baseball history, 1994.

At age 27 while still with the Expos and in a relatively neutral home park in terms of favoring neither hitting or pitching, he could have made an early gigantic impression via post season play.

Look at these team stats.

Ironically, Alou was having an MVP type year, and the entire outfield (Walker, Grisson, Alou)were just entering their prime at age 27. With Ken Hill having a Cy Young type season, a 22 year old Pedro Martinez making himself known and a young John Wettland as the relief ace.

Had that team had the chance, history may have been different. Quite realistically the Expos don't sell their stars, move and Walker remains longer. Mind you, he wouldn't have put up the numbers he did with the Rockies and probably doesn't win MVP and other awards. So from a personal perspective in the long run being in Denver probably did more good for him than even playing in multiple post seasons in Montreal.

Pretty crazy list of talent... and one year away from Vladdy.....

Crazy.
