Stopped in my local CVS to pick up a prescription and the pharmacist is wearing a face mask. Also several large signs warning about the coronavirus.

Kind of creepy.

Were screening at jail right now.

Which is a good thing. But its funny when the intake nurse asks random cholo "have you been to Wuhan, China?" And theyre like "nah, fuck garden grove, eh"

Evacuee confirmed to have coronavirus in California as US total reaches 13

One of the evacuees who was transported from China to California last week due to coronavirus fears was diagnosed on Monday with the new virus, becoming the 13th known case on U.S. soil, reports said.

The patient left Wuhan -- the epicenter of the virus -- on a State Department chartered flight carrying 167 evacuees that arrived at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego on Wednesday.

The patient is under observation and isolation at UC San Diego Medical Center and is "doing well," according to the hospital.

“CDC is conducting a thorough contact investigation of the person who has tested positive to determine contacts and to assess if those contacts had high-risk exposures,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement, according to Reuters.

The evacuee was among four people -- three adults and one child -- who were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center with a fever or a cough, according to the CDC.

The CDC said all four patients had tested negative for the coronavirus on Sunday and were returned to MCAS Miramar, according to Reuters. However, on Monday, the CDC said that additional testing showed the patient had tested positive while in the 14-day mandatory quarantine.

Another patient was also transported to the hospital on Monday for evaluation and will remain there for further tests. It's not clear if they were part of the four people originally tested.

“Both patients are doing well and have minimal symptoms,” the medical center said per the news organization.

Nearly 540 U.S. nationals have been evacuated from Wuhan to the San Diego base. They have been subject to the CDC’s first public health quarantine in 50 years, according to Reuters.

It marks the seventh confirmed case of the virus in California and the first in San Diego County. Other cases in the US have been confirmed in Arizona, Wisconsin, Illinois, Massachusetts and Washington state.

Shake up going on to affix blame for virus spreading.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-51453848

According to state media, there have been hundreds of sackings, investigations and warnings across Hubei and other provinces during the outbreak.

Beijing has sent a team from its highest anti-corruption agency to Hubei to investigate the treatment of Dr Li by police.

Possibly sensing that his own head was already on the block, the mayor of Wuhan, Zhou Xianwang, said the reason it took so long to warn the public about the virus was that he didn't have clearance from above.

That could mean permission from the provincial party secretary. It could also be interpreted that he was directing the blame all the way to Beijing.

Sounds like that Sulphur Dioxide footprint is going to get just a bit bigger.

i'm sensitive to the fear about this particular strain of flu. working at a school, i see every single year just how quickly sickness can pass from kid to kid - kids come to school sick because parents can't/won't keep them home, kids don't wash their hands, they cough without covering their mouths, etc. etc. If this flu were to get into the general population, it has the potential to spread with the speed of a california wildfire. I'm glad they're taking extra precautions on this one. I also think there's more to the story than what China has shared so far.

This.

We don't know the entire truth nor will we ever. China is a secretive place and they want to protect their government.

China sees 15K new coronavirus cases, change in counting procedure: report

The number of new coronavirus cases in China surged Thursday after 14,840 people were diagnosed with the disease that has already claimed 1,300 lives worldwide.

The jump in cases comes after reports out of the country indicated that the virus may have leveled off. The latest increase was attributed to the country's new approach to counting patients. The Los Angeles Times reported that about 90 percent of the new cases were "clinically diagnosed." Doctors in the country previously relied on nucleic tests for the viral disease known as COVID-19.

MEN APPEAR TO FAIR WORSE WITH THE VIRUS

The nucleic tests, according to reports, were criticized over their accuracy. The public has widely criticized local officials for their handling of the outbreak and Beijing has been accused of withholding key statistics in the virus' early days.

The Times reported that under the new guidelines, patients undergo a CT scan of their lungs and observed by doctors to see if they're symptomatic.

China has locked down an unprecedented 60 million people in an effort to curb the spread of the virus, which has hit hardest in the city of Wuhan and surrounding Hubei province. The country has 60,000 confirmed cases.
