Chuck they proved themselves to be a 97 win team. They could’ve won 100 games in both seasons if the Astros didn’t cheat. They’re legit.

Three years ago they were picked to finish dead last. That's my point.

There have been plenty of teams in baseball that the so-called experts predicted failure, only to see said teams make the playoffs.

They've earned the respect now, but based on their roster two years ago nobody saw it coming.

I've been feeling irritated for some reason lately and couldn't figure out why. Then I fell asleep and woke up and remembered your logic on Rendon here.

You're factoring him in as if we traded for him. We didn't lose La Stella or Fletcher, their WAR is already factored into the win total. In my case it was an overall gain of 1 win, in your case it was 0.

We still added a 6 (or 5 in your case) WAR player. It isn't 6 over La Stella and Fletcher, it's 6 overall. Fletcher will put up 3+ WAR at 2nd, La Stella will probably be between 1-2 wherever he plays.

So you actually came up with 93 wins, you superfan.

They were projected for 79 wins last year by BBP and 82 by FGs prior to the season.  Here's an article talking about said BBP projections... https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1712625

This other one ran a composite of the end of season projected standings and how the team performed compared to the preseason projections https://www.rotochamp.com/baseball/ProjectedStandings?StandingsType=1    The A's beat their composite projections by 16 games...   The Twins by 18, the Braves by 15.   Teams with younger players are always a threat to breakout.   Teams with a bunch of older players always have the potential to crater.

So like you said -- "because baseball"

Also, on the flipside. How many teams that had loaded rosters and were projected to win 90+ games or make playoffs totally tanked?

Unless the offense is out of this world, it is going to be hard for the 2020 Angels to win at least 90 games. On paper, the offense should be elite. Rendon gives the team another dangerous bat and someone who pitchers won't try to pitch around on the days when Ohtani is not available to hit. But the starting pitching will make or break the season.
