Angels sign Anthony Rendon (7 years, $245 million)

So the Angels don't want to sign Beltre to a 6/96 deal when he did nothing but put up 5,6 and 7 war seasons but they are fine giving Rendon 7 years and like 2 1/2 times the money. Crazy how bad not signing Beltre was. What an absolute steal of a player. Glad to have Rendon but like others have stated, more needs to be done.

Move on. Good lord. What a pessimistic post for such a massive signing.

Rendon has been at a clear new peak his last three years...in that time, he's slashing .310/.397/.556/.953 with an OPS+ of 143 and averaging 43 doubles, 2 triples, and 28 HR, and, even more impressively, 73 BB to 83 K.

That would have been Rendon's age 27-29 seasons...here's how he compares to Vlad (age 26-28) in his three years prior to joining the Angels.

Vlad: .324/.405/.581/.986 with an OPS+ of 151, averaging 34 doubles, 3 triples, 33 HR, and 69 BB to 70 K, and 5 bWAR annually - Rendon is at 5.5 bWAR.

Really similar offensive profiles actually. Rendon a little more doubles, Vlad a little more homers. Lots of contact, great discipline.

Let's get Castro or Maldonado and add two more SPs.

This is 100% false. Beltre already did an interview (I think years ago) about the teams interested and involved and said the Angels were one of them with money on the table.
