We will assume Eppler is overpaying.  If he gives $300 million to Rendon or $100 million for Bumgarner or $75 million for Donaldson, we will assume he got played.  Obviously this will ignore that every player so far this off season has been paid a shit ton more than projected.  The only way this doesn’t happen is if we acquire someone’s costly veteran, then it will turn into, well Eppler should have had the other team pick up more of the contract.

Overpaying compared to what?  Compared to what other teams are actually willing to pay and are paying, or compared to Angel fans fantasy of what the team should be able to get away with paying?

You comparing "other teams" here when the reality is that isnt accurate.. We lost to the Yankees and thier bottomless purse strings, whatever we were willing to do, they could simply do more, thats reality.  Combine that with a winning culture we dont have, and we would have to overpay to stupid levels that would hamsting us even worse to make it happen.
I get the anger, but its misplaced in this case in my view

Well we know he isn’t going to give Rendon 300 million if they didn’t even offer that to Cole

Ok, answer me this question, do you think Rendon is a safer bet than Cole to be productive for their entire contract?

what is this thread even about? preemptively telling everyone they're stupid?

No need here, I’m reminded every time I notice how far behind on things I am after that last couple of days.  Also, I’m grumpy.

Whatever else happens...

  • People will gripe and grovel and refuse to be happy about anything Eppler does
  • Enthusiasm will begin to grow around mid-January, as people look forward to Spring Training and a fresh start
  • I love you all

Whatever else happens, we still have each other, and that's worth more than a dozen Rendons.

I honestly don’t know.

What I do know is that we NEED pitching. So say we take the Cole money and spend it on Rendon. We can go well their WAR is similar BUT then go out and sign guys like Ryu and/or trade for Price. They’ll set us so far back again money wise that it comes back around to if we had just landed Cole.

As a far of the Angels this was the offseason many here pegged as a turning point and it’s so hard not to feel completed defeated today as a fan

Thanks for making this thread.  Please contain your arrogance and Eppler dicksucking to this thread instead of spreading it all over the boards.

Well as owner and operator of this website, you can be assured that "Fire Eppler" posts and threads will be a plenty here. I for one will lead the charge.

Eppler is in thick water right now because he will be forced to overpay for a FA and prospects in a trade.

OK if you stop with the actual market value is overpaying nonsense.

I haven’t called any of it an overpay.  My point with this was people are so down on Eppler that any move now will be perceived by those people that Eppler is overpaying, despite the fact that everyone has gotten more than projected.  So once again you aren’t understanding, that’s twice today.

This is also true.

The team has no choice at this point. The competition is overpaying for quality FA, if we don’t then we become irrelevant. MLB is turning into the NBA where only a handful of teams (the ones that spend) are super competitive. If you don’t spend you die, and with Eppler trading our 1 round pick we have no choice but to overspend.
