We've seen what happens before when a GM is in over his head and is trying to save his job (Vernon Wells). It typically isn't pretty. There are a lot of questionable moves made, particularly trades where the current GM will mortgage the future of the team to win at present and save his job.

My question is, now that Eppler swung and missed at all three of Cole, Strasburg and Wheeler, as well as Corbin last year, will the man panic?

There are some prospects on the farm you simply shouldn't even entertain trading at this point. Adell, Marsh, Adams, Rodriguez and Soriano mainly, though I'd be hesitant to deal Thaiss or Rengifo either.

But if there are no other options, do you think Eppler will sell out the farm to try and save his job?

Or do you think he will simply try to build a pitching staff with a collection of less than ace pitchers in free agency?

Or, do you think Eppler would act in the long term interest of the organization and not sacrifice the future, even if that future does not include him as the GM?

He already traded his number 1 pick so I think anything is up in the air. This year the Angels need to be significantly better and or a playoff team or I don't think he will be returning next year as this teams GM. Ball is in your court Eppler to make this team better.

Can you imagine what kind of shit move Dipoto would make in this situation? My monitor would catch fire.

Probably $250M/10yrs for Yasiel Puig

Obvious joke aside, I dont get the Puig hate, i would be totally fine with him on a 1 yr deal to plug the gap till Adell or Marsh are ready.   Id rather do that than sink a bunch into Castellanos.

A #1 pick with a mid .700s OPS in rookie ball at age 21, not a great loss

Yup, he's a guaranteed .260, 20+HRs, fine D, superb arm guy who is relatively healthy. I don't hate him at all.

He was a clubhouse cancer in his younger age but he seemed to be pretty good presence in clubhouse for past 3 seasons.

I'm also down for Puig for 1-2yr contract especially if the price tag is reasonable.

Didn't he essentially sell that #1 pick for $12.7 million?

You can't list 7 prospects that you either don't want to or are hesitant to trade, and then expect him to make moves that are going to significantly help the team any time in the near future. We're not going to get anything good back for our second- and third-tier prospects.

I totally can, and did. Free agency costs money, not prospects. Taking on salary costs money, and minimal prospects.

Ryu, Yamaguchi, Donaldson, Bundy, and either Castro or Machete would still be a solid enough off-season.

Heck, Ryu and Yamaguchi combined will probably not get as much as Cole did per season.

Move Stella to play mainly 1B (100 games?) with some 2B and 3B mixed in based on need?  Pujols is not going to play more than 60 games at 1B at age 40.

As the farm starts to really produce in the next few years, there will be less need for incoming FAs, which also means not needing to sign them to 9 year deals.

Ummmm his antics in Cincinnati brought about some interesting on field skirmishes. Puig is still a little bit of a loose cannon. Not totally unhinged, but not a stable product.

Who cares if he's unstable? If it's for a short deal, what do we have to lose. He's a solid ball player.

Matt Harvey was unstable and he was dog dick. I'll take my chances on Puig, who's actually solid.
