Dylan Bundy to the Angels for Isaac Mattson, Zach Peek, Kyle Bradish, and Kyle Brnovich

Perfect example of a guy that has good looking stuff but still gets hammered. Just not that good a pitcher in my opinion. I liked him as a prospect a few years ago but he has only got worse from there. Like Blanton type numbers. Maybe his numbers improve a bit here, but how much do they really if he’s still can’t throw a fastball that fools hitters?

we didn’t give a lot up (I don’t think) and if he’s a back end/depth starter, I’m fine with it, but it we’re trying to be sneaky with the pitching again hoping a Harvey type pitcher will be good (that’s what this signing is)... well then I guess I will just continue to hope this organization knows what it’s doing.

will reserve  my opinion on the deal until the others are announced. Mattson jumped  fron A+ to AAA in 2019 . Really good numbers.

I had honestly never heard of him before today, but looked at his BR page after I saw the news. Looks like a pretty good 19th round pick. Seemed to put up real solid numbers in the minors overall last year. Guessing he profiles as an average to slightly above average middle reliever in the bigs?

Obviously too soon to rate this deal but Bundy has always been a great option for a third arm. Of course the fear here is that Eppler has already stated that he’s targeting two arms this offseason. Not sure I like the idea of Bundy being our second biggest acquisition.

Yeah, I’m a little optimistic and hopeful still that the Angels net three SPs this winter. I know it bumps someone like Canning to AAA initially, but good depth is a great thing to have. The Angels can hopefully sign Cole, a cheaper arm like Teheran, Roark, Wood, Pineda, and add that to Bundy for a nice rotation with depth to play with, and maybe a little money for catcher, bullpen, or bench help too.

His presence also lets the Angels wait out that market for a second arm too, maybe nab someone later in winter on a good deal, like Keuchel.

Be interesting if they are in on Bumgarner.

Can’t tell if serious or not...

Our leader in IP had a -0.3 WAR. Our leader in IP pitched 102 innings.

Our leader in SP WAR was a rookie at 1.1

Bundy almost equaled our top 2 leaders in IP and WAR combined

Unless we gave up someone great we don't know about yet, yes we needed someone like this

I would be happy with that offseason.

sadly a hallmark of Eppler off seasons has been breaking camp at least one player short. Great teams typically have a player surplus, which is what Canning at AAA would represent.

My feelings exactly. I want our AAA team loaded, even if it means taking on some early season risk in 2020.

Canning is better than Bundy, Roark, and Pineda. Probably even Teheran. Why waste Canning in triple A?

He played in the AFL this Fall, and was good there too. I hope Bundy does what is expected of him , or this deal could be lopsided in the O's favor, depending on the other 3 pitchers going to the O's.

One mistake I see a lot of people making is thinking about Ohtani as two full time players. He’s a great #2 in a rotation but he isn’t coming close to 180 innings next year. He’s a great DH but he is at best getting a little over half the ABs there. There needs to be talented depth to cover there.

We don’t have a single reliable SP on the roster right now. For all the potential these guys have, it’s still just that. Maybe it comes together in 2020. Maybe 2021. We need all the arms we can get and for $5-6m and hopefully just some minor league filler, this is a good add.
