Angels hire Tony La Russa as a Senior Advisor to Baseball Operations

Recommended Posts

Brings another experienced baseball resume and voice. If I remember correctly he didnt do much in Arizona working with Dave Stewart.

It couldnt hurt at this point!

Between the peanuts, 4AAAA players and the glut of middle infielders I hope he can help us in securing some decent collegiate Starting pitchers in the draft from the Southern States and Midwest.

According to Maria Torres of the LA Times, GM Billy Eppler said Tony La Russa is joining the front office as a special assistant of baseball operations.

Here's the official press release from the Angels:

I am completely guessing but this moves suggests that Eppler will be with the Angels for awhile.  It makes sense that Arte is bringing in some established baseball people to support Eppler's learning curve.  Eppler can certainly improve in some GM areas.

Seems odd....but he's seen a lot of success and has an amazing amount of baseball experience/knowledge.      Can't hurt to get his two cents on things.     Like others, I can't help but think that his relationship with AP is why he wants to be here.
