One thing that occurred to me that relates to knowing what pitch is coming is relative to slumps.  I haven't run all the numbers but when a player slumps it's typically because they are caught in between the fastball and an off speed pitch.  Imagine how much easier it would be to break out of a slump or get through a patch when you don't feel right at the plate if you know what's coming.
