The Dipoto regime is that gift that keeps on giving. Everything that turd basket touched turned to...well...turds.

And the non-turds were all traded to other teams. The farm system was pillaged and set ablaze. When Eppler got here, he burned down the past remaining structure before rebuilding by trading Newcomb and Ellis, in what has turned into a landslide deal in favor of the Angels.

The Newcomb fall off has been pretty dramatic

It’s kind of crazy that the most popular name that keeps coming up as teams having interest is Wheeler.  Today it is the Twins that are interested and making their best offer up front.  Yesterday it was the White Sox.

more teams can afford him (since Cole is going to be extremely expensive). I'm also hoping this somehow means that teams seem to think he's likely to end up with the halos and are setting their sights to the next best available.

Richards too.

After Weaver in 2004, we went on a real run.  Trevor Bell, Jonathan Bachanov, Matt Harvey, Tyler Chatwood, Ryan Chaffee, Buddy Boshers.  Then in 2009 it was Skaggs, Richards, Kehrer, Corbin.  Then after that, the Reagins Dipoto picks of Bedrosian, Daniel Tillman, Donn Roach (3 of the 2010 draft where we had 8 of the first 115 picks.  bleh), followed by Maronde, Clevinger, RJ alvarez, Mark Sappington, Hunter Green, Keynan Middleton, Elliot Morris, Kyle McGowin, Harrison Cooney, Sean Newcomb, Joe Gatto, Chris Ellis, Jeremy Rhoades, Jake Jewell, Grayson Long

Then the Eppler era began.
The first pitcher he drafted was Chris Rodriguez.
From that 2016 draft, there isn't much left in the way of potential for pitchers.  Cole Duensing has an outside shot of being something although it doesn't look great for him at this point.    but outside of those two, the halos only drafted and signed a couple other guys in the first 20 rounds.

2017 we got Canning who's already in the big and looking pretty damn good.  Swanda still has potential and could creep into the top 30 next year with a strong followup after TJ surg this year.  Denny Brady has some outside swing/relief potential.  Isaac Mattson actually looks like he's got a good shot of being a very solid reliever.  Jeremy beasley has back of the rotation potential.  A few other guys with potential to be relievers.

2018 is still all projection.  I still like Hernandez more than most.  I didn't at first but he impressed me this year.  Especially in the AFL where I think he figured something out.  There's gonna be a bunch of relievers coming out of this class.  And a couple guys that could come out of nowhere in Van Scoyoc and Nunan.  Throw Holmes in there as well.  I'm really starting to like this class more and more.

2019 who knows.  Kochanowicz being touted as the pitcher with the most upside in our entire system right now.  Stallings is a sleeper.  Most of the guys haven't thrown yet.

I hate doing this btw because every time I do a mini draft review, I always see Clevinger and I get so very mad.  So very mad.  Dipoto was such a fu**ing idiot.  I always laugh at the Orioles for giving up Arrieta for almost nothing and then I realize that the Clevinger trade might be worse.  Is worse.

Cole, Clevinger, Ohtani, Canning, Heaney.  and money to spend on Rendon.

#$%@#$&^@#$^!#!!!!!!

Totally spaced on Richards.

And yeah @Dochalo, the clevinger thing is the nail in the coffin. Imagine we had kept him, and corbin... literally just those 2.

For added misery, swap out baldoquin for vlad jr...

Literally think how different the past few years would have been...

And imagine adell coming up, with vlad jr as his bosom buddy in the cheap pre arb years.

Sigh....

Missing on Vlad Jr. is right up there on the stupidity chart with not re-signing Ryan.

Yeah, this looks like a really odd trade for the Padres. Looks lopsided in the Brewers' favor.

I agree.
The Brewers get what looks like a very good young 2B to solve that problem for the immediate future and apparently move on from Moustakis etc.
Plus it means Mil may step into the pitching market having solved that problem.

Edit, twitterverse is expecting he may move to SS in Mil though.
