Dodgers Interested in Francisco Lindor - Should the Angels look into this?

Dodgers are interested but should the Angels be too?

I speak about this in the Primer Series but a package centered around Simmons, a starter (Barria? Canning?), and Jordyn Adams plus ????, might have interest to the Indians who are still a very competitive team in their Division. It seems likely the Indians would want MLB-ready players more than long-term prospects.

The catch to this, of course, is an increase in payroll and the fact we would still need to add more starters (particularly if we send Barria or Canning, preferably the former).

Food for thought as an alternative trade scenario for this off-season.....

He is a shortstop. He is not a need. This is not really a discussion because the Twins are not letting him go cheap and we would still have Simmons.

The Twins have Lindor?

I remember reading something very similar about Andrelton Simmons before the Angels traded for him.

I'll say this much, @ettin. The Indians could look at a package like Jordyn Adams, Jeremiah Jackson (SS to replace Simmons if he doesn't extend for the Indians for way cheaper than what Lindor would), Andrelton Simmons and Jose Suarez.

The reason for the trade is to land a incredibly productive bat, defensive whiz, base stealer and charismatic teammate for at least two years - with hopes of signing him to a 2-3 year extension.

So a 25 year old 4.7 war 32 home run hitting shortstop won’t provide us any future? I make that deal right now.

two years of control and then he costs 30+ mil per.  He's also gonna cost 17m in arb for 2020 and probably 25m in 2021.

But we would be trading Simba and his salary for a solid prospect or middle relief. Pujols will be off the books in 2022 then Upton will after that. Lindor makes better sense than Simmons long term.

Evidently you didn't read ettin's post.

Obviously upgrading shortstop isn't a priority, but if Lindor is really available, you have to at least float the idea. I like your package (ahem), and think it is do-able. Maybe Simmons, Barria, Jackson, Ward, and Knowles?

Two more years of club control for Lindor, and then a mega-contract, but after Pujols is gone. Trout, Lindor, Ohtani, and possibly Adell if he is as good as we hope, would give the Angels four bonafide superstars.

come on AJ.  that doesn't even get you on the same planet let alone in the neighborhood.

You're exaggerating. First of all, it is one year of Simmons, two of Lindor. So you're offsetting the difference between their skill levels and an extra year of club control. I'd say Lindor is about +2 WAR over Simmons, so +4 WAR for the two years. I think Barria, Jackson, Ward and Knowles gets the conversation started.

They should call... and hang up when the Twins ask for a bp screen.

And when the Indians ask for Adell,

Lindor for just Adell is a steal. You make that deal right now and immediately trade Simmons for prospects or middle relief.

They'll ask for a lot more than Adell.  The Angels need pitching more than anything and they have more than capable., much cheaper, middle infielders. It's just not a good match. It wont happen

that just feels like parts to me.  if you've only got Simmons for 1yr, then it's more than a +4 WAR difference.  Lindor is going into his age 26 season and Simmons is coming off one where he had sub 2 WAR.

Barria is a #5.  maybe.

Jackson and Knowles just finished rookie ball.

Ward is barely even a guy.

To get Lindor, the conversation starts with one of your top guys if not thee top guy and at least one more really good one.  Or a guy who's just lost his prospect status.
