The first paragraph pretty much paints the picture for an incredibly shallow brain...

The LA Angels of Anaheim have spent nearly $30 million the stadium over the past seven years, but only a fraction of that spending was for normal wear and tear maintenance, and more than half of the money was used on items that benefit the team like a scoreboard.

Earth to dipshit -- that money went to benefit the fan experience...

This bit also shows the dearth of critical thinking involved here..

“We operate a first-class baseball experience at the stadium that meets and exceeds Major League Baseball standards,” Garvey said in a text message.

Yet team owner Arte Moreno argues said the stadium desperately needs updating and he wants the city to help pay for it.

Congratulations for speaking a truth and yet failing to understand what you are talking about.  The updating required is stuff the Stadium lacks and can't be "updated" with as is.

8 paragraphs in he says this ..

Noll said teams throughout the country often delay maintenance in order to get cities to help them cover the costs when negotiations come up.
then, because apparently he felt repeating himself would make for an insightful read he says.. Victor Matheson, an economics and accounting professor at College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts, also said teams often delay stadium maintenance in an attempt to get subsidies from cities during negotiations.

I learned nothing new about this situation...    Just shit or get off the pot already Moreno/Anaheim.   I appreciate you sharing the link because it's something well all are interesting in but what a load of nothing from the guy writing the story...

I think it is interesting, though not well written. Arte spent as much as he did in the scoreboard and other things to improve fan experience, it seems very that logic that he would be committed to keeping the Angels in Anaheim. That's a big loss to take if he spent that much on the second largest video screen in baseball only to move to a different stadium in a couple years.

We don't see the A's doing anything to the coliseum, and with good reason. They don't plan on staying there.

Personally, I frickin' hate the new scoreboard. They rarely use all of it.  Most of the time whatever they're showing has ads on each side of the video instead of a full picture.   The few times they go full screen, it cuts off the top of the video. The screen in left field is easier to see because it's a "full" picture and not some distorted wide angle view.  I also hate that you can't easily see the updated out of town scoreboard any more.  The whole lay out is hard to get used to and even though I go to a ton of games, I still am not used to where everything is.  Plus, even though they show a lot of stats on the left field screen - they don't give you the number of times a guy walks.  OBP, yes.  OPS, yes.  Walks, no.

Arte should provide each fan with their own IPad instead. 😎

The info I took from this is that it's standard for it to drag on like it has been and spending all that money on the new scoreboard means Arte has no intention of moving.

Angel Stadium (heck, even Doyyer Stadium) will always be better than the soulless stadiums the Braves, Twins, and even Skanks play in.

The Twins stadium is awesome. I've been to 15 current stadiums and that is top 5, maybe top 3. I've been to MN, SF, SD, SEA, COL, PHI, DC, STL, KC, CHC, BOS, OAK, TB, LAD, LAA
