I stayed at the Hilton at Paddington Station and second the recommendation of the area as a place to stay. Just walk out of your room and take an escalator down to the station.

The Tower of London was cool.  The Roman Bath, at Bath, is an interesting spot, especially at twilight.  However, it is a good distance away.

The Indian food was very good in the UK.

And that’s even considering the French in board.

The french spoke better english, too. It may have been slow and relaxed, but at least they pronounce Rs.

We also went to Bath, well worth the trip. We bought a BritRail Pass before we left on the trip, so we just got on the train and left. Also made the trip to Salisbury to see Stonehenge. You catch the bus for Stonehenge right outside the train station.

For a first trip to London, the area around Covent Gardens is where I would suggest staying.

This seems to be the opinion I am getting the most. Looking online at VRBO, and AirbNb, the prices seem to reflect this as well.
