  1. 1. What is your approval rating for Eppler as a GM

  2. 2. How many more years will you be ok with Eppler as the GM without making the playoffs?

I debated even doing this because I think I know the typical responses. Someone ( @Lou) will make a B joke. Someone will say Epplers the worst someone will say he's the best etc etc. But I am truly curious what people think. I am neither pro or anti Eppler. I thought this team had enough to make the playoffs this year. It doesn't look like it will happen. I don't want this to turn into another shit all over everyone thread. Just was wondering what people's approval rating of Eppler is and how many more years will they be satisfied with him if the Angels continue to not make the playoffs before you want Arte to bring someone else on board?

Well, it really depends upon how things unfold. I voted 80% and 2 years because I love some of the things he's done--Simmons, Ohtani, Trout, farm rebuild, no long contracts on risky free agents--but he also has a few warts, mostly his free agent choices.

2 years...hard to say. Depends on what you mean by "OK." OK as in if the Angels don't make the playoffs in 2020 or 2021 do I think he should be fired? Depends on why they don't make the playoffs.

But given the trajectory, I'm OK if they don't make it again next year - as long as the farm continues going in the right direction and the major league team continues to improve. I might start getting antsy if they don't capture a wildcard berth by 2021. By 2022 they really need to be a 90+ win team for Eppler to maintain approval.

before you guys all vote, I want you guys to go search up mlb top 100 prospects, go to the archives and go to 2016. after doing this go to the Angel's system and look at that nightmare! than compare it to 19 and also compare the roster and see how far eppler has taken this team.

Wow you're right.  We have the 22nd rank prospect pool now!  Suddenly I don't give a shit how the big team is doing!

If we were in another division, I’d be more bullish on next year, but Houston is freaking good and really well managed across the board. I don’t think it’s fair to hold Eppler up to that standard, especially with all the injuries we've dealt with.

I won’t be stoked if we miss out on the WC next year, but if it goes more than two seasons, that likely indicates something is wrong.

While we can all point to bad moves, the Trout extension, Ohtani, Rengifo, Sandoval, Simmons, Adell, La Stella, etc. are good enough moves for me to give him an 80%.

Yea I can understand that.  I took that into consideration, but dropped him to 70% because of his free agent signings.

They’re one year deals. The Cozart one is the only big miss to me. Arte may feel differently, but that’s between them. It’s sucks, obviously, but I see them as more bad luck than anything. You could argue his analytics department needs to overhaul how they value free agent targets, but I’m guessing their methods are a bit more sophisticated than ours.

Personally, I’m glad he didn’t overpay for someone like Eovaldi. That’s the last thing we would need: Another multi year miss.

We’re on the exact same page.

Pitchers on the FA market are almost always a terrible deal.  Eppler went with 1 year deals for that reason I am sure.  Also because in theory there were a lot of young pitchers making their way up.

Of course, the Angels need a 40 man roster worth of pitching depth to absorb all the injuries that keep happening.
